SMART Recovery Successful Life Skills explained

Said every person who walked into a recovery meeting. Ever. However… maybe we have similar skills to the people around us but not the skills that help us manage outside of the lives we’ve been living. If we want to live a better life, we have to learn what those other people know.

Our friends Charles True and Ron Lott took the tools that SMART offers, their experience running meetings in correctional institutions, and some life wisdom to make a handbook that would connect more easily with those of us who might not have the education levels that others do. This handbook gives us tools to help stay away from addictive stuff and live a better life.

If we want to be successful at getting, keeping, and lighting up a job, we need to change the way we think about work. We need to change how we act to people at work.

What the rest of society might think is common knowledge, might not have been given to us growing up. How do they expect us to know that credit cards cost us so much more money if the people around us never understood credit cards either? They know damn straight that nobody reads that fine print.

This book uses SMART tools to help us understand how to handle life better. How to turn tragedy into tuition. How to deal with stress. How to change how we think so we don’t freak out as much. On top of that, it shows us how to create a basic budget, set up a weekly planner, and the basic skills they expect us to just know.
